As an advocate for capitalism, Yaron Brook has defended it against its many enemies and even against its alleged allies. Two events – one upcoming and another recent – highlight both aspects of his advocacy.
On September 18, the Soho Forum in New York City will be hosting a debate between Brook and Professor Bryan Caplan, a Professor of Economics at George Mason University and a New York Times Bestselling author. They will debate the resolution “Anarcho-Capitalism would definitely be a complete disaster for humanity.” Drawing on the distinctively Objectivist defense of capitalism, Brook will take the affirmative, while Caplan will defend his ideal of “anarcho-capitalism.” If you cannot attend in person, the debate will be available to livestream free of charge.
While waiting for the debate you can also view Brook’s latest appearance on the John Stossel show, which recently aired on the Stossel TV YouTube channel. In the video, Brook takes on the avowed enemies of capitalism, including Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. In his signature style, Stossel challenges Brook to defend his unique case for the morality of capitalism. Brook explains how the attacks on billionaires are attacks on the morality of rational self-interest, the approach that Ayn Rand defends in her novel Atlas Shrugged. He shows how voluntary transactions of individuals are responsible for the unprecedented wealth that has lifted most of the world out of extreme poverty in the last century.
Ayn Rand observed that capitalism has never had a proper moral defense based on a rational philosophy. Yaron Brook demonstrates the power of that defense and the shortcomings of those “defenders” who evade it.
