The Ayn Rand Institute proudly announces the establishment of the Harry Binswanger Scholarship Fund. The fund honors Dr. Binswanger’s work as a communicator and teacher of Objectivism and his contributions to the ARI board of directors, from which he has recently retired. The fund will support students in ARI’s academic programs, fostering the next generation of intellectuals dedicated to Rand’s philosophy.

Dr. Binswanger has been a prominent figure in the Objectivist movement for decades. As a close associate of Ayn Rand and a member of ARI’s board of directors nearly since the Institute’s inception, he has dedicated his career to advancing Objectivism through his teachings, writings, and editorial work. His books include The Biological Basis of Teleological Concepts (1990) and How We Know: Epistemology on an Objectivist Foundation (2014). Dr. Binswanger co-edited the second expanded edition of Rand’s seminal Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology, which includes transcripts of her advanced workshops on philosophy. Starting in the late 1980s, he taught a graduate seminar for ARI on Objectivism. That course was a foundation for the Objectivist Academic Center at ARI, where he continues to teach a range of courses today.

The Harry Binswanger Scholarship Fund aims to recognize and support students who exhibit exceptional promise in the study and promotion of Objectivism. The fund will provide financial assistance to those studying in ARI’s educational programs, sponsor free books to students, and award prizes for ARI’s essay contests.

ARI’s Gala this summer celebrated Dr. Binswanger’s intellectual contributions to our mission of advancing Objectivism. Speaking at the event, Yaron Brook, chairman of the board, remarked: “When you look at Harry’s career, and of course this is not the end of his career, you have to recognize that for much of the success of the Ayn Rand Institute over the last almost 40 years is due to the guidance and support and mentorship that Harry has provided us.”

Dr. Binswanger’s influence extends beyond his published works. His teachings have shaped the minds of countless students, and his editorial insights have helped bring Ayn Rand’s philosophy to broader audiences. The scholarship fund in his name will help sustain this impact by providing the necessary resources for aspiring intellectuals to engage deeply with Objectivism and contribute to its ongoing spread.

Excitement around the Harry Binswanger Scholarship Fund has been building, and has already sparked an outpouring of support from our donors. We invite supporters of Objectivism to be part of its legacy. Your donations directly impact the lives of students who are dedicated to Ayn Rand’s philosophy, enabling them to pursue rigorous academic and intellectual endeavors. Together, we can ensure that Dr. Binswanger’s work continues to thrive through the work of new generations of Objectivist scholars.
