On October 7, 2023, Hamas (a militant Islamist group based in the Gaza Strip) launched a monstrous attack on Israel, murdering and kidnapping civilians. Could it have been predicted? Why did it happen? What will be its consequences ?
These are some of the questions that ARI senior fellow Elan Journo answered from a distinctively Objectivist perspective in two recent media interviews.
On October 9 on the popular The Ross Kaminsky Show, Journo argued that Israel has a right to self-defense, and should not restrain itself from exercising this right. Hamas, as the aggressor, is morally responsible for all deaths that occur in this conflict, including Palestinian civilians. As he explained, to defeat the Hamas threat, Israel needs “moral clarity and moral confidence.”
Journo elaborated on the same major points in another interview on the Lars Larson Show, later the same day. He stressed in particular how the right to self-defense applies regardless of whether or not innocents are caught in the crossfire. The host, Larson, agreed with him.
