The Ayn Rand Institute is committed to bringing its unique approach, informed by the philosophy of Ayn Rand, to the analysis of today’s issues. In order to reach as many minds as possible, our intellectuals make an effort to appear in the media to discuss a variety of topics from an Objectivist perspective. A pair of recent appearances dealt with the government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
First, Onkar Ghate, chief philosophy officer at the Institute, appeared on the August 14 episode of The Lars Larson Show (interview starts at 01:07:26). Discussing nationwide mask mandates proposed by Joe Biden, Ghate argued that it’s not within the scope of government’s proper role to enact such mandates. This interview brings more visibility to Ghate’s illuminating paper on what a pro-freedom approach to infectious disease looks like. (Earlier we reported about an earlier interview that promoted the paper more directly.)
A related topic covered by an ARI intellectual on the radio is the debate over school reopenings. Yaron Brook, chairman of the board at ARI, joined Freedom Works Radio on August 14. Brook argued, among other things, that it’s wrong for health authorities to issue blanket orders stopping all schools from reopening. Instead, each school district, private school and parent should decide how to proceed.
Stay tuned for future appearances of our intellectuals on your favorite radio show or podcast.
